Prof. emerita E. Simantoni-Bournia specializes in Greek Archaeology of the Early Historical period (particularly in relief and painted pottery) and is vividly interested in the restoration and preservation of archaeological sites; she has directed the restoration and presentation of the archaeological sites of Karthaia (the restoration won the Europa Nostra prize for 2017) and of the tower of Ag. Marina on Keos island. She has participated in several International Archaeological Conferences and has been invited to teach or lecture in many European Universities and Archaeological Institutes. She was Vice-President of the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens (2009-2010) and Director of the Archaeological Library of the same Department.She is the author of three monographs on relief pottery and of four others on different subjects of Greek archaeology; she has also contributed articles/papers in scientific periodicals or collective volumes and has been active in editing (she has edited the vols. 5-15 of the periodical Archaeognosia and has coordinated the publication of eight supplementary volumes of the same periodical).
