Abstract
Spirituality has become a word of controversy in the field of Psychology. Some psychologists argue that spiritual beliefs can become a distorted, non-realistic transference of what needs to be seen ideal within. Words like intrapsychic trauma, empathy, vulnerability and narcissism are parameters of our daily lives whether we realize it or not. It is proposed that spirituality, being a process by which one recognizes the self as part of the whole, whole being something greater than the self, has a reverse relationship to narcissism. More specifically, narcissism can be seen as a dark place of spirituality. Lack of empathy is the point of differentiation for diagnosed narcissistic personalities. Spirituality is a place of the heart where empathy is highly promoted needed and emphasized. In addition, being vulnerable willingly, is the gatekeeper of psychotherapy. Narcissism on the other hand, is a state of non-vulnerability. Narcissists do not wish to be submitted to therapeutic pain, as it threatens their pseudo-strength and persona. It is spirituality through which, we always need to keep an anchor inside, always reminding ourselves that all fundamental truth of ourselves lies within us. It is worth examining how it is related to all other psychological forms of our existence.
