Author Guidelines

Manuscript

AURA publishes only papers/ monographs written in Greek or English.

AURA does not charge subscription fees to readers or access fees for its content. There are no article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees for authors.

The journal conducts thorough plagiarism checks on all article submissions to ensure originality and adherence to academic integrity standards.

The manuscript for the journal papers or the books for the Supplement Series should be submitted throught the website of the journal. Please do not email them.

They should be a in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word document file format. Please use only the Times New Roman font. For Polytonic Greek please use the New Athena Unicode font. Your document must have the following structure:

  • abstract (up to 200 words) in english (if possible, also in greek)
  • text (double-spaced in 12-point font). The citations should be placed in parentheses within the text, not in footnotes or endnotes. If it is necessary to add a footnote, its text should be single-spaced in 10-point font
  • figure captions
  • catalogues or appendices (if necessary)
  • bibliography (only for cited works)

Figures

Each image should be saved in a separate file in one of the following file formats: .png, .tif, .psd, .ai, .eps (JPG files should be avoided). The recommended resolution is 300 dpi. Filenames should consist only of the author's last name and an ascending number. Images inserted into MS Word or PowerPoint files have a very poor quality and are not going to be accepted. Please sumbit all images within a single zip file.

Literature and Abbreviations

All citations should be placed in the text, not in footnotes or in endnotes. Footnotes are acceptable only in special instances.

The bibliography at the end of the paper should only consist of the publications cited in the paper. The citations and the bibliography should be formatted according to the guidelines of the American Journal of Archaeology. Please use also the abbreviations for the Standard Reference Works and the Journals and Book Series.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word document file format.
  3. The text is double-spaced in 12-point font and footnotes single-spaced in 10-point font.

    The text employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).

    All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  5. To ensure the integrity of the blind peer-review for submission to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other.

    This involves the authors of the document to delete their names from the text. With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file.

    • Authors may share and distribute the published version of their work, including depositing it in institutional repositories, publishing it in books, or posting it on personal or institutional websites, as long as proper acknowledgment of its initial publication in AURA is provided.
  3. Author Responsibilities:

    • Authors are responsible for obtaining all necessary copyright permissions for third-party materials included in their submissions (e.g., images, figures, tables).
    • Authors must ensure that these permissions explicitly cover the reproduction and open-access distribution of such materials under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
    • Documentation of copyright permissions must be provided upon request, and any issues related to copyright infringement will be the sole responsibility of the authors.

Indexing and Accessibility

  • Authors grant AURA the right to submit their published work to relevant academic indexing services, repositories, and databases to ensure maximum visibility and accessibility.
  • The inclusion of works in indexing platforms will follow the guidelines and requirements of the respective services, such as Scopus, Web of Science, and others.

By agreeing to publish with AURA, authors acknowledge and accept the above terms, ensuring their work adheres to the standards and policies of open-access publishing.
