Abstract
Η ανακήρυξη της Κύπρου σε επίσημο κράτος το 1960 αποτελεί ορόσημο στη σύγχρονη ιστορία του νησιού. Το δοτό όμως σύνταγμα περιείχε διατάξεις με διχοτομικό χαρακτήρα που προκαλούσαν τόσο προβλήματα στην εύρυθμη λειτουργία του κράτους, όσο και στην ειρηνική συνύπαρξη Ελληνοκυπρίων-Τουρκοκυπρίων. Οι προσπάθειες για συνταγματικές αλλαγές πυροδότησαν μια σειρά αλυσιδωτών γεγονότων που οδήγησαν στις διακοινοτικές συγκρούσεις του 1963-64, ενώ η πολιτική, κοινωνική και στρατιωτική αστάθεια της επόμενης δεκαετίας κορυφώθηκε με την τουρκική εισβολή του 1974.
Η παρούσα μελέτη παρουσιάζει τις μεθόδους και τα εργαλεία της ιστορίας, ιστοριογραφίας, και χαρτογραφίας, αναδεικνύοντας τη θετική τους συμβολή στη δικαστική αρχαιολογία. Συγκεκριμένα, αναλύονται οι πτυχές, τα μεθοδολογικά εργαλεία κι η συμβολή της ιστορικής, ιστοριογραφικής, και χαρτογραφικής έρευνας, στον εντοπισμό πιθανών χώρων ταφής και στην ταυτοποίηση των θυμάτων. Αυτά, παρουσιάζονται μέσα από περιπτώσεις-μελέτης που εμπίπτουν στη δικαστική αρχαιολογία, κι αντιπαραβάλλονται τόσο στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος ταυτοποιήσεων της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, όσο και σε αυτό του ανθρωπιστικού προγράμματος δικανικών ταυτοποιήσεων της Διερευνητικής Επιτροπής Αγνοουμένων. Σημείο αναφοράς αποτελεί η ανάδειξη αυτών των εργαλείων από τις διεθνείς ομάδες εμπειρογνωμόνων που βοήθησαν στην οργάνωση κι εδραίωση των εν λόγω προγραμμάτων, κι οι τρόποι συνεχούς ενίσχυσης αυτών των πτυχών από την έναρξη των πρώτων εκταφών το 1999 μέχρι σήμερα. Παράλληλα αναδεικνύεται ότι η λειτουργία αυτών των προγραμμάτων δε βοηθά μόνο στην επιστημονική κατοχύρωση της ταυτοποίησης των λειψάνων, αλλά μέσα από το ιστορικό υπόβαθρο της λειτουργίας τους φτάνοντας ως σήμερα, μαζί με τις προφορικές μαρτυρίες, μπορούν να λειτουργήσουν ως σημείο αναφοράς για καλές πρακτικές (τεχνικές-επιστημονικές μέθοδοι εργασίας) που ακολουθούνται για άλλα αντίστοιχα προγράμματα στο εξωτερικό.
