Abstract

Το καλοκαίρι του 1959, κατά την διάρκεια τεχνικών εργασιών αντικατάστασης σωλήνα αποχέτευσης, ανακαλύφθηκε τυχαία ο αποκαλούμενος «θησαυρός του Πειραιά». Το γεγονός χαρακτηρίστηκε ως μία από τις πιο εντυπωσιακές ανακαλύψεις της μετα πολεμικής Ελλάδας και αναμφίβολα αποτέλεσε μία από τις πιο λαμπρές στιγμές της Πειραϊκής αρχαιολογίας. Ωστόσο, τα τέσσερα χάλκινα αγάλματα και τα υπόλοιπα αντικείμενα που συγκροτούν τον θησαυρό και σήμερα κοσμούν το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο του Πειραιά θαμπώθηκαν από την ίδια τους την λάμψη. Παρά το έντονο ενδιαφέρον της επιστημονικής κοινότητας αλλά και της κοινής γνώμης τα αποτελέσματα της ανασκαφικής έρευνας ουδέποτε δημοσιεύτηκαν και το εύρημα από τότε συνιστά ένα από τα μεγαλύτερη αινίγματα της αρχαιολογικής έρευνας στον Πειραιά. Οι θεωρίες που διατυπώθηκαν, χωρίς να βασίζονται στα ίδια τα ανασκαφικά δεδομένα, αποτελούν περισσότερο υποθέσεις παρά ερμηνείες του ευρήματος. Η πρόσφατη σωστική ανασκαφή που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο πλαίσιο του τεχνικού έργου της επέκτασης της γραμμής του Τραμ από το Φάληρο στον Πειραιά αποκάλυψε ξανά το σημείο όπου βρέθηκε ο θησαυρός και δίνει επιπρόσθετα δεδομένα που θα μπορούσαν να δώσουν απαντήσεις στα ερωτήματα που τέθηκαν ήδη από την ανακάλυψη του θησαυρού των αγαλμάτων.
