Komposition und Komposita kontrastiv: eine kreative „Salatmischung“

Abstract

The article gives an overview of compounds and generally of the word formation process of compounding. The research focuses on endocentric, determinative, noun - noun compounds that are very productive in German. Although the analysis starts with compounds in German, it is not restricted to one language. Examples from further European languages are presented and discussed. The selected examples often denote different types of salad or include the word salad, in order to create a word play. The diversity of the process of compounding within a contrastive framework is analysed. Moreover, its impact on other fields, like in lexicology, in the foreign language acquisition and in translation studies, is also discussed.
