Abstract

Friedrich Philipp Immanuel Niethammer’s educational concepts and his influences on the history of ideas in German literature (Enlightenment, Classicism and Romanticism) reveal educational theories that are part of the reception history of their ideas in German pedagogy. In the third chapter of his treatise Der Streit des Philanthropismus und Humanismus in der Theorie des Erziehungs-Unterrichts unsrer Zeit (1808), on which the first part of this paper focuses, the general basic principles of Niethammer’s pedagogy are formulated. Pedagogical goals and means are the focus of the discussion and are analysed from a didactic point of view. The second part of the study presents the review of Niethammer’s pedagogy in the Allgemeine Literatur-
Zeitung (1808) and compares it with the literary advertisement in the Greek journal Καλλιόπη (1820) about Philanthropismus und Humanismus. Zwei gegensätzliche Systeme der Pädagogik and as it emerges in the context of the modern Greek Enlightenment.
