The present study, which constitutes a revised and expanded version of Sofia Koukouvinou’s doctoral dissertation, explores the intellectual interactions between the German Enlightenment and the Modern Greek Enlightenment, focusing on their contribution to the formation of modern Greek education up to the early Ottonian period. Through a comparative analysis of philosophical, pedagogical, and historical sources, it highlights both the influence of ancient Greek thought on the German Enlightenment and the reception and transformation of German ideas by Greek scholars. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of translation, pedagogical theory, and philhellenism in shaping new educational and ethical frameworks. The study demonstrates that these Greco-German intellectual exchanges were crucial for the development of education and the formation of modern Greek identity.
